We are seeking an experienced Credit Risk Manager to lead and manage the company’s customer credit risk portfolio, ensuring the business is protected from financial exposure while supporting sustainable commercial growth. This role is responsible for assessing customer creditworthiness, managing risk across existing accounts, and leading a high‑performing international credit team. You will play a key role in balancing commercial opportunity with sound risk management and driving best practice across credit operations.

What you will do

  • Manage the overall customer credit risk portfolio, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to minimize bad debt exposure.
  • Assess and approve new customer credit applications, setting suitable credit limits based on risk analysis and financial strength.
  • Review existing customer accounts regularly, monitoring payment trends, overdue balances, published financial results, and market intelligence.
  • Identify high‑risk accounts and recommend actions such as limit reductions, payment terms changes, or escalations.
  • Partner with commercial and sales teams to support growth while ensuring credit decisions align with risk appetite.
  • Challenge or decline orders that exceed approved limits or create unacceptable exposure.
  • Produce dashboards, reports, and management information on credit risk, portfolio performance, overdue debt, and key trends.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four direct reports based across South Africa and the UK.
  • Manage relationships with external credit insurers to ensure adequate coverage and effective claims management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in credit risk processes, policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Support senior leadership with insights, recommendations, and strategic risk decisions.

What we expect of you

  • Proven experience in a Credit Risk Manager, Credit Manager, or similar role within a corporate/commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of trade credit risk, customer onboarding, credit assessments, and portfolio management.
  • Experience leading and developing teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, payment behaviour, and market data.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge decisions where required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present risk findings clearly to senior stakeholders.

Preferred skills, experience, and qualities needed

  • Knowledge of credit insurance management and insurer relationship oversight.
  • Experience using credit reporting tools, ERP systems, and risk dashboards.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance business growth and risk mitigation.
  • Proactive, resilient, and able to make sound decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Professional qualifications in Finance, Credit Management, or a related field would be advantageous.
