Role Class 1 Driver – Responsible for carrying out deliveries across the UK while ensuring our customers receive the best impression of our organisation. You are the ‘face’ of our business, not just a delivery driver.
Responsibilities
- Drive company vehicles and operate company equipment safely and in accordance with company policies, procedures and legislation.
- Carry out vehicle, load and auxiliary equipment checks prior to operation and report any defects immediately.
- Deliver goods to customer premises across the UK, maintaining service levels.
- Follow all special instructions as requested by transport office.
- Ensure all documentation is completed and signed as required.
- On return to base or at the end of shift, report to the traffic office for a full debrief.
- Undertake a driving skills assessment whenever requested.
- Comply with vehicle security and standing instructions at all times.
- Wear company uniform and personal protective equipment when issued and required while on duty.
- Load product onto the vehicle safely, evenly distributed and securely for travel on public highways in line with current legislative and guidance requirements.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab and overall condition of the allocated vehicle.
- Report any accidents promptly in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure.
- Attend essential training to carry out the driver role.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the Company Standards of Performance and Health and Safety Policy.
- Hold and maintain the necessary driving licence & vocational entitlement for your role, and notify the Transport Manager immediately of any changes.
- Maintain high levels of health and safety standards.
Requirements
- Current CPC.
- Possess LGV C+E (Class 1) driving licence.
- Digital tachocard and up-to-date Drivers Qualification Card; full understanding of tachograph legislation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co‑workers.
- Diligent attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Flexibility to cover working hours.
- Experience of working in a customer‑facing role.
- Numerate and literate.
Manual Work Involved
- Loading and unloading of goods from vehicles.
- Stacking of empty pallets.
- Coupling and uncoupling of trailers.
- Opening and closing of vehicle curtains.
