About the role

This position reports to the Principal Scientist and is part of the Conjugation Development Platform Team within Research and Development, located in Cambridge, UK. It is an on‑site role and a 1‑year temporary assignment.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform antibody conjugations using advanced and emerging technologies and assess product quality pre‑ and post‑conjugation using analytical techniques such as HPLC, FPLC (AKTA), and spectroscopy.
  • Contribute to and lead the development of novel conjugation technologies and evaluation of antibody labelling reagents, supporting cross‑functional collaboration and ensuring effective communication across Danaher R&D and downstream teams through regular technical updates.
  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), and Risk Assessments.
  • Support training and development of less experienced scientists within the team.
  • Lead technical transfer activities to the manufacturing team, by sharing newly developed and validated conjugation methodologies, contributing to knowledge sharing and capability building.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental data using BMRs, laboratory notebooks, and Oracle ERP, ensuring adherence to SOPs and ISO9001:2015 standards.

Essential requirements

  • PhD in a scientific discipline with relevant postgraduate or a minimum of 2‑3 years of relevant experience, ideally within industry, or equivalent professional background gained in industry.
  • Experience in antibody conjugation, QC of conjugates, and assay development.
  • Proficiency in using AKTA or equivalent and HPLC for conjugate purification and characterization.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time, showcasing strong knowledge of antibody conjugates used in biological assays (e.g. flow cytometry, ICC, immunoassays) and antibody labelling reagents (e.g. fluorescent dyes, enzymes, oligonucleotide barcodes).
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a passion for working in the lab environment.
  • Demonstrates a flexible mindset and ability to adapt to shifting priorities and customer demands.
  • Previous experience in working in cross‑functional teams is a plus.
