Position Overview

With our ongoing success in business growth, we are expanding our Engineering team and have a new opportunity for a Senior Energy Engineer to join us in the development of engineering solutions for a wide range of clean technologies and renewable projects. The successful candidate will lead work assignments covering all technical analysis and deliverables for our customers in both public and private sectors. This involves on-site energy audit, outline design and scope of work, detailed design, techno‑economic assessments, coordination with stakeholders, liaising with technical specialists and sub‑contractors, report writing and presentation.

The ideal candidate must have a good level of engineering expertise, possess strong technical lead development skills, have a sound track record in developing successful energy and renewable projects, and be willing to travel nationwide. The role will involve a high percentage of local Bristol based projects, with hybrid working from our Bristol office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume overall responsibility for the development of projects throughout their life cycle, covering High Level Assessments (HLA), Investment Grade Proposals (IGP), or FEED (Front End Engineering Design) and Detailed Design.
  • Carry out energy audits and site surveys at potential customer sites to identify and develop opportunities for technical solutions including, but not limited to, ASHPs, energy conservation measures (ECM), and renewables.
  • Develop engineering outline design including equipment sizing and layout, system performance and operation parameters, control philosophy, outline system drawings, pipe sizing, constructability assessment, risk assessment, and design programmes.
  • Develop process and mechanical engineering deliverables including heat and mass balances, mechanical schematics / P&ID’s, 2D/3D layouts, PFD’s and equipment/instrument schedules, and BMS operating strategies.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, techno‑economic analysis, energy modelling, and energy saving calculations.
  • Produce outline engineering work packages and scope of work documents for contractors to provide pricing.
  • Manage sub‑contractors to deliver, or self‑deliver detailed design, undertaking design reviews, and providing technical support during construction and commissioning.
  • Liaise with client stakeholders and attend regular client project meetings.
  • Exhibit comprehensive engineering knowledge and understanding of entire project terms and technical requirements.
  • Preparation of technical reports, presentation and all project supporting documentation detailing buildings, building systems, data analysis results and energy savings opportunities.
  • Undertake designer site inspection reports and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
  • Assist in improving operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Mentor junior engineers, supporting their development and skills.
  • Experience working on UK Public Sector Tender Frameworks including PSDS, ReFiT, LHC, Essentia, CEF, and SNDEE advantageous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working in energy engineering, renewables, or decarbonisation.
  • Engineering degree, or equivalent preferably in Chemical, Mechanical.
  • Achieved or working towards Incorporated engineer status, or Chartered.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles associated with building services and heat pumps.
  • Awareness of current industry guidance, such as CIBSE, Building Regulations, and legislation.
  • Demonstrated lead development skills including the ability to build project scopes and assess constructability of systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite in particular Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
