SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people‑first culture. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mine Water Professional to join our established Mine Water team, delivering high‑profile integrated water management and mining sector projects. Based in Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham, London or Dublin, the role will focus primarily on mine water management, hydrology and water resource engineering for local and international mining projects, with additional exposure to feasibility studies, due diligence, ESIA and closure planning, as well as a small amount of other multi‑disciplinary work spanning renewables, infrastructure, power, industrial and built‑environment sectors.

The Role

  • Project and technical leadership – delivering integrated water management solutions across the mining lifecycle, including feasibility studies (PEA/PFS/FS), operational improvements, due diligence, ESIA and closure planning
  • Client management and proposal support – enquiry handling, client liaison, technical workshops, reporting, QA/QC and site visits
  • Mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers and scientists – supporting team capability, resource planning and strategic development
  • Desk‑based work alongside site visits across the UK, Ireland, Europe and internationally – collaborating with colleagues across Europe, Asia‑Pacific, Africa and the Americas

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Environmental and Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA, Engineering and Global Advisory on complex and impactful mining projects, with opportunities for European and international exposure.

About You

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience delivering mine water, hydrology or water resource projects, ideally within the mining sector
  • A degree in hydrology, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, geology or a related field, with professional registration (CEng, CEnv or CSci)
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement experience, including client liaison and technical workshop delivery
  • Knowledge of relevant water management design codes, guidance and best‑practice standards for mining and minerals
  • Experience with water modelling tools and analytical systems, such as rainfall‑runoff models, water balance modelling, hydraulic modelling and (desirable) GoldSim
  • Strong technical reporting, numerical analysis and problem‑solving skills, with experience producing drawings, graphics and presentations
  • A driving licence that permits you to legally drive in the UK for site visits

Your knowledge will include:

  • Climate characterisation and design rainfall estimation
  • Stormwater management and hydraulic design
  • Flood hydrology and rainfall‑runoff modelling
  • Water balance modelling and water resource management
  • Planning and design of water management infrastructure
  • Dam break assessment for water and tailings storage facilities

Desirable additional experience:

  • Field hydrology programme design and execution
  • Water quality monitoring and modelling
  • GoldSim probabilistic scenario modelling
  • Newtonian and non‑Newtonian hydraulic modelling
  • Data management, data science, GIS and/or CAD
  • Cost estimation and design specifications
  • Water treatment plant and pumping system design
