The successful applicant will be a Geophysicist with a degree in a Geophysical subject, coupled with at least five years’ experience in the application of near-surface geophysics to onshore engineering and geotechnical projects. It is expected that the applicant will be a Chartered Geologist (or able to achieve their Chartered Geologist status in the near future) with a specialism in Near‑Surface Geophysics.

As a consultancy, we specialise in advising our clients in the most appropriate geophysical approaches to overcome challenges in ground engineering projects. This role is a unique opportunity to work in an expanding near‑surface geophysical capability with a diverse project portfolio within our Ground Engineering & Tunnelling team and beyond.

We want a candidate with the flair and ability to help us develop and expand our geophysical capability, which is built on a reputation for technical excellence. The candidate will contribute to this by applying their skills in geophysics along with their track record of client engagement and winning work to build our expanding, flexible and outward looking geophysics capability.

For the Geophysicist position the successful candidate will be expected to take immediate ownership and lead project delivery and training with our early‑career staff, as well as take responsibility for building relationships with clients to expand our offering. We seek a collaborator, someone who is stimulated by a dynamic workload in a fast‑paced environment, and who enjoys working as part of a group of specialists to deliver relevant and technically excellent geophysical consulting services to a broad range of clients.

A strong background in applied near‑surface geophysics with a relevant degree. Chartered Geologist status (or able to achieve their Chartered Geologist status in the near future) with a specialism in Near‑Surface Geophysics. At least five years of experience in onshore geophysics with a focus on near‑surface techniques applied to the fields of geotechnics and / or engineering geology. Extensive field experience in a range of geophysical field techniques and associated geophysical processing software (e.g., Res2DInv, Seisimager, SurfSeis, Geolitix and / or open‑source applications) and visualisation software (e.g., Oasis montaj, Leapfrog, Civils 3D, Paraview).

Demonstrable experience of field survey design and management of long‑term or complex surveys, including project and data management skills, management of site health and safety, knowledge of CDM regulations, etc. Excellent communication skills and confidence to translate the needs of clients, specify techniques for our contractors, and communicate findings with and inspire non‑geophysicists. The technical authority, based on experience and skills, to be able to identify and challenge data quality issues, and work towards solutions for remedying these where applicable. Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self‑check and produce technically excellent work. A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas. A valid UK driving licence.

Experience with Python (or similar programming) for geoscientific purposes is desirable. Experience with novel and emerging geophysical techniques (e.g., drone‑based techniques, fibre optic based techniques, nodal seismic deployments, machine‑learning) is desirable.
