As an Electronics Laboratory Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation of Graphcore’s Bristol laboratories, helping to ensure that facilities, equipment, tools and processes are ready to support engineering activity. Working as part of the Laboratory team, you will help maintain a safe, organised and reliable electronics lab environment, supporting cross-functional teams with equipment setup, preventative maintenance, asset control, ESD checks and technical documentation.
The Laboratory team supports the installation, maintenance, repair and modification of electronic systems, cables and equipment within Graphcore’s laboratories. The team works closely with engineering groups to help set up test benches, troubleshoot routine lab issues and ensure that equipment is safe, available and operating reliably.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the installation, setup and calibration of electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power supplies and related laboratory equipment.
- Carry out preventative maintenance activities to help keep laboratory equipment available, safe and reliable.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment in line with health and safety requirements.
- Check and maintain ESD countermeasures, escalating issues where corrective action is required.
- Support asset management activities, including tracking tools, equipment and laboratory assets.
- Manage goods in/out processes for laboratory equipment, components and related materials.
- Support engineering teams with test bench setup, equipment configuration and technical readiness for hardware bring-up, validation and characterisation activities.
- Help create and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions and technical guidance for laboratory users.
- Provide practical support to laboratory users, including guidance on safe equipment use and routine lab processes.
- Support engineering teams with board, cable and wire modifications, following agreed procedures and quality expectations.
- Maintain accurate records for equipment, maintenance activity, assets and laboratory processes.
- Identify routine laboratory issues and work with colleagues to resolve or escalate them promptly.
Candidate Profile
- Experience working in an electronics laboratory or similar technical environment.
- Strong practical understanding of electronic test equipment, including setup, calibration and basic troubleshooting.
- Awareness of ESD controls and safe working practices in an electronics lab environment.
- Ability to follow technical procedures accurately and maintain clear records.
- Practical experience supporting equipment maintenance, lab organisation or asset tracking.
- Good attention to detail, with a focus on quality, safety and reliability.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineering and operations teams.
- A proactive and organised approach to managing tasks and supporting laboratory users.
- Experience supporting hardware bring-up, validation or characterisation activities.
- Experience with soldering, rework, cable assembly or board-level modifications.
- Familiarity with calibration processes, asset management systems or goods in/out processes.
- Relevant technical qualification in electronics, electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working in a semiconductor, electronics, computing hardware or high-technology R&D environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality processes, equipment documentation or standard operating procedures.
