KONE partners with Northern Regional College on the Apprenticeship Program in Northern Ireland. Northern Regional College is the main provider of further education across four of the 11 council areas in Northern Ireland. Around 1000 apprentices train with Northern Regional College every year and we’re expanding to include a broader range of professions.
What you’ll do as an Apprentice
- Hands‑on experience: Shadow and work with experienced Engineers on various sites.
- Service and maintenance of lifts and escalators: Get involved in service visits and minor repairs of the equipment.
- Customer interaction: Deal efficiently and effectively with customers.
- Study: 1-2 days a week is spent at the College, studying for nationally-recognised qualifications in the same profession as the apprenticeship.
Practical information
- Working Week: Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. On Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm.
- Hours of work: 39 per week.
- Duration: 36 months (24 months the College course, 12+ months NVQ3)
- Start date: 1st of September 2026.
- Salary: starting at £8.87 per hour with annual increases subject to performance.
Location
We offer apprenticeship in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Training is work‑based, primarily at customer sites, so you must be prepared to travel. Travel to and from customer sites takes place outside standard working hours.
Who can apply?
- Age: You will be 16+ on the apprenticeship start date on the 1st of September 2026.
- Education: qualifications in Maths and English. If you need to improve your GCSE grades, the College offers Essential Skills courses to support you.
- Skills & qualities we’re looking for: practical and hands‑on approach, motivation and interest to engineering, logical thinking, good time management and organisation, customer service, good communication. Positive attitude, persistence, and proactive approach.
- The role is field‑based, so you will be expected to obtain a driving licence within the first 1–2 years of the apprenticeship.
