As a Data Reliability Engineer II, you will play a crucial, hands‑on role in our global DRE team ensuring our critical database systems are reliable, fast, and scalable. Your mission is to proactively maintain and enhance the reliability, integrity, and performance of our data footprint. You will help manage a diverse, modern GCP data ecosystem—spanning relational, NoSQL, and analytical platforms (focus on PostgreSQL via Cloud SQL and AlloyDB, alongside Spanner, Cassandra, Firestore, Bigtable, and BigQuery)—while ensuring smooth operations, performance tuning, and automated deployments. As our team embraces a cloud‑first mindset, you will be encouraged to become a broad generalist, developing skills across modern data technologies.

Accountabilities

  • System Health & Proactive Incident Management: Monitor database system health and participate in a follow‑the‑sun incident response rotation.
  • Observability, Performance & Optimization: Monitor and tune top resource‑consuming patterns and critical queries proactively so databases never become a bottleneck.
  • DevOps, Provisioning & Automation: Provision databases and schemas according to application requirements.
  • Resilience, Data Protection & Security: Support the implementation of database resilience, backup, and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and up‑to‑date documentation related to data systems, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional Experience: 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in Database Administration, Data Reliability Engineering, or a similar role with exposure to database infrastructure.
  • Core Database Technologies: Foundational knowledge of relational and NoSQL database concepts. Exposure to or experience with a subset of our cloud‑based data platforms (GCP Cloud SQL, PostgreSQL, AlloyDB, Spanner, Cassandra, Firestore, Bigtable, or BigQuery) is desired.
  • Scripting & Automation: Familiarity with scripting languages (such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell) and the ability to read, modify, or write basic scripts to help automate operational tasks.
  • Infrastructure Tools: Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & DevOps: Experience or familiarity with using Terraform or Kubernetes Config Connector (KCC) to provision infrastructure, alongside version control (Git) and deployment tools (like Argo or general CI/CD pipelines).
  • Methodologies: Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to Change Data Capture (CDC) tools like Striim.
  • Certifications: Google Associate Cloud Engineer or actively studying for GCP Professional Database Engineer.
