Job Locations: Dorking Hospital Outpatients Department, Epsom Cottage Hospital, Holmhurst Medical Centre in Redhill, Elizabeth House Medical Practice in Warlingham, and Oxted Medical Centre.

This role is responsible for providing clinical support to the Consultants and Medical Staff of DHC.

The successful applicant will cover a wide variety of clinic specialities, gaining experience across many areas. They will also hold nurse-led clinics, including conducting Spirometry, FeNO, taking blood pressures, applying Holter cardiac monitoring devices, and measuring height and weight.

Regular working hours are between 07:45 and 21:45 Monday to Friday, and Saturday shifts are from 08:00 to 18:00. Saturday shifts are shared within the nursing team, which consists of 12 people with a mix of registered nurses and healthcare assistants.

Clinics are held across five locations. The ability to drive and having your own transportation would be highly beneficial. Site preferences will be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

The ideal applicant will have excellent attention to detail, strong computer literacy, the ability to maintain confidentiality, confidence to speak up when acting as a chaperone, and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and remain calm under pressure. A can‑do attitude and effective teamwork skills are essential.

Full training will be provided to the right applicant.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing clinical support to the Consultants and Medical Staff of DHC.

Duties and responsibilities of the post

  • Work within clinical protocols and at an appropriate level of competence at all times.
  • Work autonomously within the team to provide an effective, efficient service during pre-booked clinic appointments.
  • Use IT systems effectively to ensure consistent and accurate recording. Ensure patient confidentiality at all times according to the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients and team members, showing sensitivity to patients' needs.
  • Show motivation, reliability, flexibility, and commitment to the role.
  • Comply with Clinical Policies and Procedures at all times and provide evidence of required vaccinations within specified timelines.
  • Undertake other clinical and administrative duties as required, commensurate with the nature of the post.

Specific clinical duties (training will be provided)

  • Chaperoning of Doctors and Consultants during examinations.
  • Venepuncture (blood tests).
  • ECG recording.
  • Blood pressure measurements.
  • Weight/height measurements.
  • Vision testing.
  • Visual fields.
  • 24/48 hr Holter cardiac monitoring.
  • Assisting Nurse in hysteroscopy.
  • Other tasks designated by Lead/Senior Nurse.

Work setting and review

Manage own workload efficiently and effectively on a daily basis with a degree of autonomy. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Make decisions pertaining to the smooth and efficient running of the department, acting independently but referring problems to management or the appropriate consultant when necessary.

Confidentiality

The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and DHC business in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Caldicott principles.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science.
  • NVQ Level 2 or other healthcare qualification.
  • Care Certificate.
