Supervise a team of 4, despatch, packing, export, and goods inwards operations within a manufacturing environment. This hands-on role includes operation of heavy-duty overhead cranes and forklift trucks across several buildings. There are potential future responsibilities as a trainer for lifting and handling activities. Will need to be computer literate to manage the required processes on the company ERP system plus common tasks in Microsoft Excel / Word and other Office packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Despatch & Packing
- Coordinate outbound shipments in line with production schedules and customer requirements
- Supervise packing of engineered products and components to meet quality and specification standards
- Maintain packaging accuracy, integrity, and compliance with labelling policies
- Liaise with hauliers and transport teams for collections and deliveries
- Ensure that the correct commercial invoices, packing lists, customs declarations, and certificates of origin are assigned to goods being despatched
- Work with freight forwarders and customs agents to ensure best value and service is achieved for the company
- Maintain export documentation in accordance with audit and legal standards
- Receive and inspect incoming materials and deliveries
- Validate items against purchase orders and resolve discrepancies
- Record deliveries using ERP system
- Coordinate safe unloading and storage of goods
- Safely operate overhead cranes for lifting and moving heavy components
- Use forklift trucks for material handling and pallet movement
- Maintain certification and logbook of equipment operations
- Adhere to strict safety protocols for machinery use
- Supervise logistics and warehouse operatives across multiple areas
- Manage team workload based on operational priorities
- Provide coaching and performance feedback
- Use ERP system for tracking goods in/out, despatch, and stock control
- Ensure HSE compliance throughout operations
- Drive continuous improvement in packing, storage, and workflow processes
Person Specification
- Experience: 3+ years in logistics within engineering/manufacturing
- Equipment Certification: Forklift and overhead crane certification (or willingness to attain)
- Export Knowledge: Familiar with shipping paperwork and international regulations
- Technical Familiarity: Knowledge of engineered components and packing requirements
- IT Proficiency: Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems
- Leadership: Ability to lead a multi-functional team and foster development
- Compliance Awareness: Strong understanding of HSE and trade compliance standards
