The Role: As a Cable Jointer working for Doocey Group you will play a vital role in installing, connecting, and maintaining low and high voltage underground power cables and associated infrastructure. The role involves working on a range of projects including utility installations, infrastructure developments, and network upgrades. You will ensure that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards in compliance with DNO/IDNO specifications and statutory regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out LV and/or HV cable jointing, terminations, link box changes and cut-out replacement according to technical drawings and jointing specifications.
- Prepare cables, joint bays, and tools for jointing activities on-site.
- Inspect cables and accessories for damage and confirm material compliance before use.
- Record and report all completed jointing works (e.g., joint types, locations, test results).
- Operate tools and equipment safely in accordance with RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statement) and be responsible for Daily Risk Assessments.
- Follow health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) requirements at all times.
- Liaise with the supervisor and civils teams to coordinate excavation, ducting, and reinstatement works.
- Participate in toolbox talks and weekly safety briefings.
- Carry out inspections on tools, PPE, and vehicles to ensure readiness and compliance.
- Carry out visual and functional testing, including Polarity, Phasing, Insulation resistance and Continuity where required dependent on training and competence.
- Be NERS authorised within individual competence.
- Carry out training of jointers within competence.

Technical Skills & Experience:
- Proficient in jointing techniques including straight joints, branch joints, terminations, cut-outs, and link boxed on LV/HV cables and a range of cable types including LV PILCSTA, plastic, Consac, HV SWA, Picas, and Triplex.
- Ability to read and interpret cable records, network diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Excellent awareness of underground utility safety and electrical hazards.
- Clear and effective communication skills, good IT skills, and the ability to work in coordination with multiple site teams.
- Strong understanding of industry standards including DNO/IDNO specifications, NRSWA, and HSE regulations.
Qualifications & Training:
- Essential: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical Power Engineering / Cable Jointing, DNO trained (or equivalent recognised jointing training scheme).
- Current competence and authorisation to carry out LV cable jointing and associated testing.
- Experience working on DNO/IDNO networks and private network installations.
- ECS/JIB card or CSCS.
- NRSWA (Streetworks) Certification.
- Full UK Driving Licence, including towing licence.
- Desirable: Current competence and authorisation to carry out HV cable jointing and associated testing.
- Experience working under NERS with current or previous authorisation passport.
- Confined Space Training.
- First Aid Certification.
