Location Tipton Our Company Doocey Group is a family-run utility and civil engineering contractor with over 40 years’ experience built on strong, Black Country values. We’ve experienced significant growth over the past 10 years which we’ve achieved through consistently delivering high quality work on behalf of our clients, including National Grid and South Staffordshire Water. We pride ourselves on the strength of our relationship with our clients and subcontractors and despite operating in a very fast-paced and often challenging industry, we will soon register a turnover of £100m, a significant milestone for the organisation. The Role The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the company’s end to end weekly and monthly payroll process for PAYE staff and the payment of subcontractor invoices. The focus is on ensuring accurate and timely payment of monies and other forms of compensation to circa 600 people split between sole traders and employees. This role involved maintaining payroll records, processing payroll transactions, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The Payroll Manager is expected to lead and manage all payroll queries and the payroll email inbox. The Payroll Manager jointly shares management of 1 payroll team member in conjunction with the Head of HR & Support Services. Responsibilities * Create all weekly and monthly payrolls for Director approval * Prepare senior payroll and ensure it is approved and processed * Create and distribute chaser emails for missing timesheets for all weekly and monthly paid employees * Apply all mileage claims from mileage spreadsheet report for weekly and monthly paid employees * Processing leavers: calculating all leaver payments including holiday accruement, PILON, training fees, fines or damages to be deducted in preparation to process their final pay * Create payroll reports including overtime, payroll amendments and queries, to be distributed to managing directors for approval * Process all approved payrolls through SAGE and Cashbacs * Export BACS report for weekly payroll from SAGE as a CVS file, to be uploaded into Cashbacs website and then checked and submitted by another payroll/HR team member * Ensure employee pension contributions are submitted to pension provider every week * Creating and distributing P45s to leavers * Ensure deductions spreadsheet is kept up to date with all new invoice totals against relevant worker and any new starts or leavers * Manage all month-end and year-end payroll duties such as P60s and P11d’s to assist the finance team with any issues relating to these payroll process and associated audits * Manage the company’s pension schemes for both auto-enrolment and salary sacrifice, ensuring new starters are set up correctly and current employees’ deductions are accurate * Contribute to continuous improvement of HR and payroll processes, documents and services Personal Qualities * Meticulous attention to detail * Integrity and confidentiality * Organisation and time management * Calmness under pressure * Numerical and analytical mindset * Problem-solving * Confident and leadership * Communication * Adaptability and flexibility * Approachability and service orientation Technical Skills & Experience * Extensive payroll experience (certified or qualified by experience) * Sage 50 payroll experience Qualifications & Training * Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) – Foundation Degree in Payroll Management or Payroll Technician Certificate (Desired) * AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) – AAT Foundation Certificate in Payroll (Desired) Additional Information Doocey Group value a diverse workforce and welcome applications form all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristics.
