The Role
The Contracts Manager for our Multi-Utilities division is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of multiple live projects from pre-construction through to final account. The Contracts Manager will lead operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and compliance. Acting as a key link between site teams, commercial departments, subcontractors and clients, the Contracts Manager plays a vital role in driving performance and maintaining strong working relationships across all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the safe delivery of multiple live civil engineering, utility and infrastructure projects
- Monitor progress against programmes and take corrective action where required
- Manage Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors to ensure labour, plant and materials are effectively destroyed
- Ensure works are completed in line with approved RAMS, permits, client procedures and company standards
- Maintain regular communication with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams regarding progress and priorities
- Resolve technical, logistical and resource issues across active projects
- Monitor quality, safety, environmental compliance and housekeeping standards
- Oversee subcontractor attendance, productivity and performance
- Ensure accurate reporting, site records and project documentation are maintained
- Attend planning meetings, progress meetings and client reviews
- Review look-ahead programmes and critical path activities
- Reallocate resources to meet changing business priorities and deadlines
- Work closely with commercial teams on budgets, variations, applications and forecasts
- Carry out regular site visits, inspections and management reviews
- Escalate major commercial, operational or programme risks to senior leadership
- Support mobilisation of newly awarded contracts and final account close out
- Mentor operational staff and support succession planning and team development

Technical Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a Contracts Manager, Construction Manager or Senior Project Manager role
- Proven background in civil engineering, utilities infrastructure or multi-utility project delivery
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects
- Strong commercial awareness including CVRs, forecasting, variations and change management
- Good working knowledge of NEC, JCT or bespoke client contract environments
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, programmes and technical drawings
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, Excel and planning software such as MS Projects or Primavera
Qualifications & Training
- HNC / HND Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
- SMSTS
- CSCS Black Card
- First Aid at Work
- Full UK Driving Licence
- NRSWA Supervisor (desirable)
- EUSR SHEA Water / Gas / Power (desirable)
