Little Bat is an independent neighbourhood cocktail bar in Islington, known for brilliant drinks, warm hospitality and the kind of atmosphere that turns first-time visitors into regulars. We are part of the award-winning hospitality group behind Callooh Callay and The March Hare. We are now looking for an ambitious Assistant General Manager who is ready to take greater ownership, develop as a leader and build a long-term career in hospitality.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced supervisor, keyholder or closing manager who feels ready for their next step. You do not need to have held the title of Assistant General Manager before; we are looking for potential, personality and a genuine desire to learn.

The role

Working closely with the General Manager, you will help lead the day-to-day operation of Little Bat and create consistently memorable experiences for our guests. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and motivating the team during service
  • Taking responsibility for opening and closing the venue
  • Maintaining exceptional standards of hospitality
  • Coaching and developing team members
  • Supporting recruitment, training and team engagement
  • Helping manage rotas, labour and daily operating costs
  • Supporting stock management and supplier relationships
  • Handling guest feedback confidently and professionally
  • Ensuring licensing, health and safety, and company procedures are followed
  • Bringing ideas, energy and personality to the continued development of the bar

Who we're looking for

You will already have experience as a supervisor, keyholder or closing manager within a busy hospitality venue. You will be someone who:

  • Genuinely enjoys looking after people
  • Leads confidently while remaining approachable
  • Takes pride in the details
  • Stays calm and positive during busy services
  • Wants responsibility rather than simply another job
  • Is excited to learn about cocktails, wine and great hospitality
  • Enjoys developing others and being part of a close team
  • Is available to work evenings and weekends as part of the management rota

Cocktail-bar experience would be helpful, but attitude, leadership potential and hospitality instinct matter just as much.

What we offer

  • Expected total earnings of approximately £35,000 per year, comprising a £26,000 basic salary plus tronc
  • Genuine career progression across an established independent hospitality group
  • Continuous learning and development
  • External qualifications and development opportunities, including WSET and leadership courses
  • Wellbeing initiatives
  • Reward and recognition schemes
  • Free welcome drinks for you and a guest
  • 50% employee discount across the group
  • 25% friends-and-family discount
  • 50% discount on company retail products
  • Supplier trips, staff parties and team socials
  • A staff meal during every shift
  • Increased holiday entitlement after three years
  • Enhanced parental leave after one year
  • Son of a Jabberwock: the opportunity to use The Jabberwocky bar to create and run your own professional pop-up night

We want this role to become a meaningful step in someone's career. You will be given support and training, but also the trust and responsibility to make a genuine impact.

Also looking for your next step but not quite ready for AGM? We are also recruiting for a Floor Supervisor at £18 per hour. Strong applicants who are not selected for the Assistant General Manager position may, with their agreement, be considered for this opportunity.

To apply, please send us your CV and a short introduction explaining why you are ready for your next step in hospitality. Little Bat is committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and select candidates based on ability, potential and alignment with our hospitality values.
