Are you a confident, capable planning professional with strong leadership and communication skills? If so, we have an opportunity for you. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to join our Development Management service on a fixed‑term basis. This is a key leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives on responsibility, enjoys problem‑solving, and wants to help shape development across the city, contribute to strategic decision‑making, and ensure the delivery of a consistent, customer‑focused planning service.

As one of two Team Leaders reporting to the Planning Development Manager, you will provide day‑to‑day leadership and direction to a team of Principal, Senior and Planning Officers, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of the Council’s Development Management function. You will oversee the processing and determination of planning applications, including allocating work, signing off delegated decisions whilst managing your own small caseload of complex major and strategic applications and appeal work.

The successful candidate will be a confident, capable planner with extensive Development Management experience, including handling complex and contentious applications, experience supervising or mentoring staff, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Members, developers, stakeholders, and the public and have a proactive, solutions‑focused approach. This role is ideal for someone looking to further develop their leadership skills in a supportive, forward‑thinking environment.
