DN Colleges Group is seeking an ambitious and motivated Team Leader to work in conjunction with the Curriculum Leader, managing the operations within our Construction Apprenticeship department, developing and delivering high-quality vocational training and outstanding apprentice achievement. In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the full apprentice journey—from enrolment through to End-Point Assessment—ensuring excellent progress, strong retention, and high-grade outcomes. You will manage and support a team of tutors and assessors, implementing timely interventions where needed, and work closely with employers to align on‑job and off‑job training for a seamless experience. Collaborating with the Curriculum Lead, you will ensure workshop delivery and curriculum plans are innovative, ambitious and that they meet the demands of today’s construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Provide daily leadership to a team of vocational specialists, fostering a culture of high expectations and mutual support. Acting as deputy during Curriculum Leader absence. Supporting curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage the logistics of the construction hubs, ensuring health and safety compliance, resource efficiency, and effective timetabling. For example, arranging class cover. Monitoring and coaching supervisees.
  • Compliance & IQA: Lead the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) process to ensure the department remains “Ofsted-ready” and fully compliant with DfE/DWP funding rules.
  • Performance Reporting: Monitoring progress, attendance and achievement, ensure timely interventions. Use data-driven insights to monitor trends and report on achievement milestones to the Curriculum Leader. Represent the curriculum area at college meetings, working groups and events. Support recruitment, marketing and growth of apprenticeship provision.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Qualified Expert: A Level 3 (or higher) vocational qualification in a Construction trade, alongside a recognised Teaching Qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed).
  • Proven Leader: Experience in a supervisory or lead‑assessor role, with a demonstrable ability to motivate others and manage performance.
  • Achievement Focused: A deep understanding of the Apprenticeship Standards and a track record of driving high achievement and retention rates.
  • Collaborative Mindset: The ability to work effectively with the Curriculum Lead to translate educational strategy into high-quality practical delivery.

  • Quality and Compliance: Detail your experience with Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and your understanding of how to maintain “Ofsted-ready” documentation and ESFA funding compliance.
  • Employer Engagement: Give an example of how you have successfully managed a relationship with a construction employer to support an apprentice’s progress or resolve a delivery challenge.
  • Industry Expertise: Briefly outline how your vocational background and teaching qualifications have prepared you to lead a multidisciplinary construction department.
