Role Summary

The Learning Mentor will lead support for pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, engaging families and providing one‑to‑one mentoring and pastoral support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead within the school to address the needs of pupils who need help to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Engage the hardest‑to‑reach families, providing information about services, family learning and parenting, and preventive 1:1 support work.
  • Provide pastoral support to pupils.
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements and support distressed pupils.
  • Work with other staff in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities where behaviour or social/emotional difficulties are present.
  • Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their learning, behaviour and attendance.
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self‑esteem.
  • Give feedback to pupils on progress, achievement, behaviour and attendance.
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils and parents, acting as a role model.
  • Serve on the safeguarding team and be a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Support the SLT and Admin Team with attendance paperwork.
