An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Compliance Engineer to join the Industrial Fume Extraction team based in Poole. The Senior Compliance Engineer will be responsible for implementing and managing an effective legal compliance program focused on global safety standards and directives relating to machinery equipment. They will act as a company expert, resolving employee concerns and educating the team on the latest regulations and associated design philosophies. This role provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to shape and lead the compliance strategy across the product portfolio, as well as influence the development of products from concept to market.
Responsibilities:- Take the lead as a technical authority for all legislative compliance, certification and product safety requirements.
- Lead the creation, maintenance and ownership of technical files and compliance documentation.
- Manage product approvals and certifications on units to latest relevant standards.
- Primary point of contact for all external compliance testing (e.g. 61010, EMC, Intellectual property etc.).
- Conduct detailed testing on all new and existing products where required to generate reports and DoC Documentation.
- Balance demand with cost to implement and offer the best value proposition to a compliance requirement.
- Evaluate products against global legal safety requirements to enable product certification.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders throughout product development lifecycle to ensure compliance requirements are incorporated from concept to production.
- Ensure all parts used within products are compliant with relevant directives and standards such as RoHS, REACH, TSCA etc.
- Lead and coordinate compliance audits with UL/METlabs driving corrective actions through to completion.
- Ensure that all technical manuals and product documents are in accordance with the relevant directives and standards.
- Produce product level risk assessments, as well as develop and maintain relevant procedures.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve compliance processes, procedures and controls, factoring in impacts to time, cost, delivery and quality.
- Support Sales and Product Support with approval of related customer requests, as well as work with production to specify and approve product rating labels.
- Regularly audit Product Compliance documents to identify possible weaknesses or risk, as well as FAI sample approvals.
- Highly motivated, proactive hands-on approach, with a keen eye for detail and passion to learn and develop within a growing company.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce professional documents and reports.
- Technical credibility with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to manage projects through to completion.
- Extensive understanding of CE Approval process, especially in relation to electrical machines.
- Prior experience working with external test agencies, e.g. Eurofins, VDE, MET, UL etc.
- Strong understanding of IEC standards (ideally Electrical Safety).
- Ability to understand schematic diagrams and electronic component function.
- Ability to safely and effectively work alone, providing technical leadership or in small teams, sometimes across functions, as required.
- Experience in the design and construction of electrical machines, PAT testing and Flash (Hi-pot) testing.
- Formal Qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Electrical experience from within a manufacturing environment or Quality assurance/inspection experience.
- Working knowledge of RoHS and REACH.
- Experience in mentoring or developing team members.
- Knowledge of global certification requirements beyond the UK and European regulations.
