We are seeking an experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide hands-on leadership and strategic direction to a Clinical Psychology Department supporting children and young people with complex needs. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, evidence-based psychological outcomes, developing a robust clinical service, and leading a multidisciplinary team to exceed best-practice standards. This role includes responsibility for clinical governance, staff development, service quality, and resource management.
Key responsibilities of a Clinical Psychologist:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Clinical Psychology team, setting high standards of practice and professional ambition.
- Develop, embed, and continually improve a holistic, trauma-informed therapeutic ethos.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality psychological assessments, formulations, interventions, and reports.
- Oversee clinical plans for all new admissions and ensure effective ongoing review.
- Lead supervision, appraisal, performance management, and professional development of clinical staff.
- Maintain clinical governance, quality assurance, and compliance with relevant professional, safeguarding, and statutory guidance.
- Oversee safeguarding practice, including review and sign-off of incidents, concerns, and learning outcomes.
- Manage departmental resources, staffing, and budgets effectively.
- Implement and oversee therapeutic models, including specialised self-harm and risk intervention pathways.
- Undertake clinical work where appropriate, including one-to-one interventions and court-directed reporting.
- Monitor, analyse, and report on outcomes and progress for individual young people.
- Advise on risk assessments and behaviour support strategies, promoting a restorative and therapeutic approach.
- Work collaboratively with education, care, health, and social care professionals, including CAMHS and external agencies.
- Contribute to admissions, placement planning, transitions, and multi-agency meetings.
- Ensure safe, effective use of IT systems and maintain appropriate clinical environments.
- Maintain own continuing professional development and professional registration.
Essential criteria of a Clinical Psychologist:
- Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
- HCPC Registered.
- Significant experience working with children and young people with complex needs.
- Proven leadership and service development experience.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, clinical governance, and evidence-based practice.
- Excellent communication and multi-agency working skills.
