About The Role

Senior Engineering Supervisor at The Derby London City, you will play a key role in ensuring the hotel remains safe, compliant and maintained to a high standard.

Working closely with the Chief Engineer, you will support the day-to-day Engineering operation, combining hands‑on maintenance with responsibility for coordinating contractors, overseeing planned preventative maintenance (PPM), maintaining accurate records and supporting building safety and compliance requirements.

This is a varied and hands‑on role for an experienced engineer who is highly organised, technically confident and comfortable managing multiple priorities while supporting the smooth operation of a busy hotel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Chief Engineer with the day-to-day operation of the Engineering department, ensuring building services, equipment and hotel facilities are maintained safely and effectively.
  • Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, plant rooms and back-of-house areas.
  • Conduct regular building, equipment and safety checks, maintaining accurate records of inspections, maintenance and remedial works.
  • Support compliance across Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Water Hygiene and other building safety requirements, promptly escalating any concerns to the Chief Engineer.
  • Coordinate and liaise with external contractors, following up on works and projects to ensure they are completed safely, on time and to the required standard.
  • Work closely with Housekeeping and other hotel departments to prioritise maintenance requests and minimise disruption to guests and operations.
  • Monitor engineering stock, tools, spare parts and consumables, supporting ordering and effective inventory control.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and equipment faults, troubleshooting problems and arranging specialist contractor support where required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, control costs and extend the lifecycle of hotel assets.
  • Maintain safe, clean and well‑organised plant rooms, workshops and engineering areas.
  • Deliver professional and responsive service when interacting with guests, colleagues and contractors, contributing to a positive and collaborative hotel environment.

About You

  • Previous experience in an engineering or maintenance role within a hotel, hospitality or similar building environment.
  • Strong practical maintenance skills, with experience across areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems and general building maintenance.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance, with a good understanding of building services and equipment.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and building compliance requirements, with a safety-first approach to all work.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to coordinate contractors, maintain accurate records and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A confident problem-solver who can remain calm and solutions-focused when responding to operational issues.
  • Hands‑on, proactive and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and guest-focused approach.
  • Flexible to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, in line with the operational needs of the hotel.
