The role is based primarily at King’s Mill Hospital and will also involve travel to Newark Hospital and Ashfield Health Village, allowing you to provide high‑quality care across multiple settings. Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Core Orthoptics
  • Interest in ophthalmology and neurology
  • Good organisational and planning skills, with well‑developed interpersonal and communication abilities

Desirable Knowledge

  • IT skills, including knowledge of hospital systems

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Orthoptics (BSc(Orth)), BmedSci (Orth) or equivalent
  • Diploma from the British Orthoptic Council (DBO) or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

Desirable Qualifications

  • Attended the BIOS Clinical Tutors Course or equivalent teaching certificate

Essential Training

  • Willing to keep up to date with current literature and maintain evidence of CPD activities

Desirable Training

  • Low Vision Therapy course
  • Biometry training

Essential Experience

  • Experience in all aspects of clinical orthoptics

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in clinical audit and presenting audit results
  • Experience delivering student supervision and clinical education to Orthoptic undergraduates
  • Experience working with stroke patients

Contractual Requirements

  • Provide orthoptic services at King’s Mill Hospital

  • Car driver/ability to travel to Newark Hospital
