We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Design Manager to lead two small teams ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient delivery of fabrication and maintenance projects. You’ll manage a small CAD team and a workshop of fabricators and maintenance staff, acting as the link between design, production, and the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and manage CAD and workshop teams
  • Plan and schedule fabrication, maintenance, and design workloads
  • Ensure CAD drawings are accurate, practical, and fit for manufacture
  • Oversee quality, health & safety, and compliance standards
  • Manage materials, procurement, stock levels, and costs
  • Act as the key liaison between design, workshop, project office, and procurement
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and collaboration

About You

  • Proven experience in a workshop/fabrication environment, ideally in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, carpentry, machining, and maintenance
  • Confident using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Able to interpret and validate technical drawings
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills
  • Hands-on, solutions-focused, and comfortable working to tight deadlines
  • Solid IT skills (MS Office) and good knowledge of health & safety
  • Trade or engineering qualification (desirable)
  • CAD design experience and design-for-manufacture knowledge
  • Maintenance or facilities experience
  • Safety certifications (IOSH, First Aid, etc.)
