As a Charge Nurse, you will provide clinical oversight for the nursing home, ensuring safe, high-quality care for supported people with ABI and complex needs. This includes developing and monitoring support plans, conducting risk assessments, supporting clinical decision-making, and leading the nursing team. You will act as a role model, providing mentorship, guidance, and leadership during shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Oversight
    • Develop, review, and update support plans and risk assessments tailored to each person's needs.
    • Oversee and guide clinical decision-making, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulations.
    • Monitor supported people's health status, responding promptly to changes and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership and Shift Management
    • Lead and manage nursing staff during shifts, ensuring proper delegation and effective teamwork.
    • Ensure staff are supported to deliver compassionate, person-centred care.
    • Conduct daily handovers to ensure continuity and accuracy of care information.
  • Staff Development and Compliance
    • Provide mentorship, training, and support to nursing and care staff, fostering professional growth.
    • Ensure all team members comply with care standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
    • Promote a culture of safety, dignity, and respect for support people and staff.
    • Support the service with training and carrying out competencies where required.
  • Supported Person and Family Support
    • Build positive relationships with supported people and their families, ensuring open communication.
    • Advocate for supported people, supporting their independence, dignity, and quality of life.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Maintain accurate documentation of care, incidents, and updates in supported people's records.
    • Have oversight of the quality of support plans and risk assessments, ensuring they are consistent and accurate.
    • Ensure named nurses are maintaining records and support plans to a high standard.
    • Ensure Mental Capacity Assessments, consent, decision making are properly carried out.
    • Ensure all clinical incidents are followed up with and investigated as required with outcomes and lessons learned logged and shared.
    • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Assist with staffing schedules, recruitment, and appraisals as required.

Work Hours

Schedule: Shifts, including weekends. Includes a mix of direct nursing and administrative shifts.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with active PIN.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a clinical setting, with prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ABI and complex care needs.
  • Exceptional and proven leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a nursing home or long-term care setting.
  • Additional certifications related to ABI, mental health, or complex care.
