The Role
As the Senior Data Team Lead for Customer Operations, you are the strategic lead and technical architect for the data engine that keeps Dojo moving. This is a manager role designed for a "player/manager" who thrives on building high-performance teams while remaining deeply technical. You will lead a team of three Bristol-based data specialists, overseeing the data ecosystem for our core operational pillars: Customer Service, Performance Management (F&P, Training, Quality), Loyalty, Change, Collections, Logistics and Supply Chain. The Bristol office is our hub for all customer contact for 150k+ businesses across Europe, supporting Dojo as a scaling business currently in 4 markets and expanding into new countries. Your mission is to bridge the gap between complex operational workflows and actionable data assets. You won't just manage; you will partner with senior stakeholders to challenge assumptions, refine requirements, and ensure every sprint delivers value that aligns with both Customer Ops priorities and company-wide goals.
What You Will Do
- Team Leadership & Delivery
- Manage and Mentor: Lead a team of three, focusing on day-to-day wellness, professional growth, and career development.
- Agile Orchestration: Act as the lead for two-week sprints, gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into prioritised tasks.
- Unblock & Align: Work closely with team members to resolve technical hurdles and ensure output remains consistent with our architectural standards.
- Collaborative Forum: Represent Customer Ops within the wider "Embedded Data Manager" forum to align on global data strategy and best practices.
- Strategic Partnering
- Stakeholder Management: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leads in Logistics, Billing, and Service.
- Create Actionable Insights: Interrogate requests to find the "true" business question, contributing to the design of solutions that drive operational efficiency.
- KPI Stewardship: Shape and support operational KPIs, ensuring call centres and supply chain partners have accurate, real-time reporting.
- Technical Contribution (The "Player" element)
- Hands-on Modelling: Lead by example by contributing to our dbt projects and BigQuery environment.
- System Evolution: Oversee critical data initiatives such as system migrations (CRM/Billing) and the adoption of best-in-class observability tools.
What You Will Bring
- Leadership Experience: Proven ability to manage technical teams, ideally in a fast-paced or agile environment.
- Analytics Engineering Core: Expert-level SQL and significant experience with dbt for building version-controlled data models.
- Operational Expertise: Deep understanding of transactional, billing, or logistical datasets.
- Communication Mastery: The ability to explain complex data logic to non-technical stakeholders and influence senior leadership.
- Strategic Vision: Experience balancing immediate "high-impact" business needs with long-term technical health and debt management.
Nice to Have
- Tech Stack Proficiency: Familiarity with BigQuery, Looker (LookML), and GitHub.
- Experience with Salesforce data integration.
- Experience working with Agile methodologies using tools such as Jira.
