Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default. Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we've built the world's largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar - tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe. In some situations, Proton has literally helped save lives. We are profitable, independent (no VC control), and selectively hire from the top ~1% of applicants. Our 700+ team members across 50+ countries come from leading organizations and elite academic backgrounds. We move fast, keep hierarchy light, and prioritise impact over optics. If you want to do meaningful work with exceptionally high-calibre people, this is it.

The Role: Proton runs a growing portfolio of SaaS products: Mail, VPN, Drive, Pass, and Calendar - each generating its own signals about how users adopt and engage. Today, communication across that portfolio is built product by product, which means users can receive fragmented or overlapping messages instead of one coherent experience. This role exists to fix that: build the lifecycle strategy, systems, and operating model that turn user behaviour and product data into coordinated, automated journeys across the whole portfolio. It's a senior individual contributor role reporting into Head of Digital Marketing, working daily with Product, Data, Engineering, and Marketing. You'll thrive here if you'd rather build the operating system for lifecycle marketing than run campaigns inside one that already exists.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own end-to-end B2C lifecycle strategy and operating model: from onboarding and activation through engagement, conversion, retention, cross-sell, and reactivation (starting with onboarding, activation, and engagement before expanding scope).
  • Design and orchestrate multi-product customer journeys across Proton's SaaS portfolio: define who receives which message, through which channel, and when, with sequencing, frequency, and suppression rules that prevent conflicting or overlapping communications.
  • Translate behavioural and product signals into automated, triggered journeys, partnering with Data and Engineering to define the events, attributes, and integrations lifecycle marketing depends on.
  • Build the operational foundations for lifecycle marketing to scale: segmentation architecture, campaign and journey processes, and testing, QA, and governance standards.
  • Set measurement frameworks across activation, engagement, conversion, retention, cross-product adoption, and customer lifetime value, and use experimentation to continuously improve journey performance.
  • Act as the connector across Product, Growth, Data, Engineering, and Marketing - turning loosely defined problems into scalable programmes and leading through influence rather than direct authority.

Who You Are:

  • 7+ years in B2C lifecycle marketing, growth marketing, or marketing automation - ideally in a SaaS or subscription business - with a track record of building lifecycle programmes from scratch.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth scale-up, or managing lifecycle communications across multiple products or complex customer journeys.
  • Hands-on experience with lifecycle/marketing automation platforms and event-driven segmentation, triggers, and journey orchestration.
  • Experience using product and behavioural data to build automated customer journeys, with strong analytical and experimentation skills.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity - able to make progress and build structure when information or infrastructure is incomplete.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a privacy-first or otherwise regulated product environment.
  • Experience orchestrating communications across a multi-brand or multi-product portfolio.

What We Offer:

  • Work that Matters: Millions of people trust Proton with their privacy. We answer only to our users - not advertisers, not investors with conflicting agendas, not governments.
  • A Great Team: Diverse, collaborative, and tight-knit, with people from MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, Cambridge, ETH, and more.
  • Technology: The right hardware and software to do your best work.
  • Learning & Development: We invest in your growth. Proton is one of the fastest ways to accelerate your career - real challenges, real ownership, from day one.
  • Employee Benefits: Strong health coverage, solid retirement options, generous leave, and wellness support.
  • Stock Options: From day one, you have a real stake in what we're building.
  • In-Person Collaboration: Offices across Geneva, Zürich, Barcelona, London, and more.
  • Food: Lunch and snacks on us every day in the office.
  • Transport: We cover public transport, bike allowances, or parking - whichever works for you.
  • Flexible Working: You own your schedule. Outcomes matter more than clock-in times.

Compensation range:

  • London: 60,000 - 85,000 GBP gross annually
  • Barcelona: 50,000 - 75,000 EUR gross annually
  • Other locations: Compensation will be discussed during the interview process. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and previous experience.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: At Proton, we believe diversity drives innovation and strengthens our mission to provide privacy as a default for all. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals - regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socio-economic background - feel valued and empowered. If you need any extra support or reasonable adjustments during the hiring process, please let your talent partner know.
