As we continue to support the delivery of critical transport and ticketing services, we are seeking a Database Administrator to join our IT Operations team. This role is responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of business-critical database platforms and associated systems.Working closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and operational teams, the Database Administrator will ensure the availability, performance, security, and resilience of production and non-production database environments. The role plays a key part in supporting business continuity, system optimisation, and the reliable delivery of customer-facing services.

Key Duties Include:

• Administer, maintain, and support customer-facing SQL Server environments and associated test and development systems.
• Monitor database performance and implement tuning, optimisation, and automation initiatives to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
• Support and maintain mission-critical database platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Work closely with application development teams to review database structures, SQL code, stored procedures, and system integrations.
• Design and implement database solutions, including data migration, system configuration, and database enhancements.
• Develop and maintain automated data flows and integrations between business systems.
• Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes, ensuring business continuity requirements are met.
• Participate in the planning, testing, and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.
• Proactively monitor production and test environments, identifying and resolving issues before they impact service delivery.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical incidents, providing subject matter expertise and timely resolution.
• Manage database security, user administration, and access controls in line with company policies and industry best practice.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and operational standards.
• Support audits and work collaboratively with internal and external security and compliance stakeholders.
• Participate in an on-call support rota and provide out-of-hours support during critical incidents when required.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, quality standards, and health, safety, security, and environmental requirements.
• Support wider IT and business initiatives and undertake additional duties as reasonably required.
