The Group General Counsel (GC) is a senior leader within Doctor Care Anywhere and a trusted adviser to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board. The role plays a central part in supporting the delivery of DCA’s strategy, enabling sustainable growth, and ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management across the Group. This is a broad, hands‑on role with a strong commercial focus, encompassing legal leadership, data protection oversight (including acting as Data Protection Officer), and support for Company Secretarial activities. The GC will operate with confidence in a lean, high‑growth environment and provide pragmatic, business‑oriented legal advice that enables innovation while safeguarding patients, the Company, and its stakeholders.
Role Breakdown
- Commercial and strategic legal matters (c. 80%): Commercial contracting, legal advice to the business, corporate activity (including reorganisations and M&A), and management of external legal advisers.
- Other duties (c. 20%): Board and governance support, data protection oversight, company secretarial support, and broader legal or risk‑related projects as required.

General Counsel Responsibilities
- Act as principal legal adviser to the Executive Leadership Team and Board, providing clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including healthcare regulation, competition law, anti‑bribery and corruption, modern slavery, sanctions, and data protection.
- Identify, assess, and help mitigate legal and regulatory risks in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including technology, procurement, distribution, sales, and services agreements.
- Lead and oversee the Group’s corporate governance framework, policies, and compliance obligations.
- Support strategic initiatives, corporate transactions, and structural changes, including acquisitions, disposals, and group reorganisations.
- Manage and oversee external legal advisers, ensuring effective instruction, quality control, and cost discipline.
- Support and advise on Company Secretarial matters as required, working with outsourced and/or in‑house providers.
- Support compliance with ASX listing requirements and relevant corporate governance standards.
- Act as a visible and collaborative senior leader, building strong relationships across the business.
- Provide constructive challenge and independent judgment in support of sound decision‑making.
- Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practising certificate; minimum 8 years’ PQE; substantial senior in‑house commercial legal experience.
- Proven in‑house legal experience, ideally (but not essential) within a regulated industry such as healthcare, finance or insurance.
- Strong ability to provide strategic and practical legal advice, translating complex legal issues into clear business guidance.
- Knowledge of data protection law and experience managing compliance frameworks; ability to fulfil the DPO function in a healthcare setting.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ethical and independent thinker, capable of providing objective advice and constructive challenge to senior leadership.
- Strong commercial contracting track record; experience supporting a scaling business and comfortable operating at pace with a lean team.
- Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving business environment.
