Underwriter

An established specialist lender is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Underwriter to join a dynamic team focusing on bridging, refurbishment and development finance across England and Wales.

The successful candidate will manage loan applications from inception through to redemption, ensuring smooth progression throughout. This role requires a background in finance, strong communication skills, and a solid understanding of underwriting principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Loan Application Management
• Manage the end-to-end loan application process
• Liaise with brokers, borrowers, solicitors and surveyors
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records
• Manage and prioritise a live pipeline of applications

Client Communication

• Act as primary point of contact for stakeholders
• Provide clear updates and resolve queries efficiently
• Build and maintain strong professional relationships
• Review applications in line with lending criteria and risk appetite
• Assess supporting documentation and reports
• Identify risks and elevate where required
• Prepare concise credit papers for formal lending decisions
• Work towards earning individual mandate authority

Compliance & Risk

• Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards
• Identify and escalating discrepancies or concerns
• Work closely with Credit, Operations and Senior Management
• Contribute to improving internal processes

Requirements

• Finance background essential
• Lending experience preferred
• Understanding of underwriting processes
• Knowledge of bridging or development finance advantageous
