About The Role

DNV – Energy Systems (ES) is seeking a Modeller to join our Plant Analytics team in Software Engineering which is responsible for a diverse range of software including market-leading QRA (Phast, Safeti) and CFD (KFX and EXSIM) tools. The role will be based either in Stockport, UK, or in Trondheim, Norway. Other locations could be considered for the right candidate.

Two of DNV’s key strategic growth objectives are focused on digital transformation and energy transition, and these strategic objectives are reflected in the development priorities across our product lines. Software Engineering is responsible for driving the technology strategy for the software business and for developing world class domain heavy software which is offered in multiple channels and through multiple platforms (desktop, hosted, Software as a Service). Software Engineering consists of approximately 300 staff in five Software Engineering departments and one common Centre of Enablement.

The position will report to the Head of the Plant Analytics team in Plant Software Engineering. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s foremost software teams specialising in quantitative safety applications. You’ll work on meaningful, technically challenging projects that have real impact. We are building a forward‑looking team with a strong focus on the energy transition and digital transformation. In this position, you will play an important role in driving innovation and supporting the industry’s shift toward a safer, more sustainable future. You will work alongside a passionate group of modelling and software development experts who thrive on creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Together, you’ll help shape the next generation of safety software solutions.

Tasks May Include

  • Daily work with modelling and development of the Plant software tools across a range of consequence and risk models.
  • This includes modelling and development of features for energy transition challenges related to hydrogen, ammonia, CO2 and LNG.
  • Working closely with industry partners, including through JIPs, for future development of Plant QRA and CFD tools, and the integration and alignment of those tools.
  • Contribute to advanced advisory services.
  • Work with digital transformation, for instance developing cloud applications for KFX, EXSIM, Phast and Safeti.
  • Support in customer-facing activities, such as support and training of users and conference presentations.
  • Support the marketing team in delivering user conferences, webinars, marketing material, white papers etc.
  • Writing articles for journals and conferences.

About You

  • PhD or Masters’ degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Experience/knowledge in relevant areas, such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer including radiation, thermodynamics, combustion including chemical kinetics, fire and explosion dynamics, and/or advanced mathematics.
  • A flexible and can‑do attitude to take on work outside existing competencies according to market requirements.
  • Practical experience in developing innovative mathematical models of physical systems to solve real‑world problems.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with high‑performance computer languages such as C, C++ and Fortran.
  • Excellent collaboration, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in CFD modelling for turbulent flow, combustion, or numerical heat and mass transfer is an advantage.
