Assurance Services is a department of approximately 170 people dedicated to assurance services across various sectors. Our department is organised into two sections: the Project Assurance section, which provides the assurance services from the new building design phase up to the commissioning phase of assets, and the Asset Assurance section, which focuses on providing assurance services for operating assets such as offshore platforms, ships & onshore gas networks.

Our complete cycle of services makes us a key contributor to the management of the energy trilemma (energy reliability, affordability, and sustainability) and energy transition. Our markets cover a broad range of energy sectors including upstream Oil & Gas, offshore Renewable Energy and any applications serving the energy industry.

As an Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Systems (E, I & C) Engineer in our Assurance Services department, you will join a growing team of big thinkers who love finding innovative solutions to our energy industry’s most challenging problems. Based in our Aberdeen office, you’ll be supported and provided with a development plan for your professional growth from day one. You will be collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, helping to deliver career and industry-defining projects dedicated to safeguarding life, property and environment.

We offer a portfolio of services that primarily focuses on traditional Oil and Gas whilst also looking to create leading indicators within renewables, decarbonisation, and alternative fuels. Within this, our dedicated Marine Risk service line provides consultancy and advisory services, partnering with various stakeholders throughout the marine operations lifecycle, across a variety of offshore projects spanning the energy spectrum.

You will spend time developing your skills and knowledge, spending time with different technical experts across multiple disciplines, building your network and gaining a broader understanding of “what we do”, with the focus of your competency development revolving around the following subjects (though this list is not exhaustive):

  • Understanding Dynamic Positioning and the Redundancy Concept
  • Risk analysis techniques like Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Marine Vessels, Operations, and Industrial Mission Equipment
  • Vessel Power Plants (Microgrids), Generation, Distribution, Protection, and Management
  • Vessel and Industrial Mission Control Systems
  • Communication Systems
  • Safety Systems
  • Industry guidance, guidelines, regulations, and best practice
  • Greenhouse Gas emission reduction, Hybridisation and Decarbonisation
  • Hybrid power system; battery integration, kinetic energy recovery, super capacitors, etc.
  • Power system modelling and simulation studies.

Upon joining, you’ll receive a buddy to help you settle in, a mentor to enhance your technical knowledge, as well as ongoing on-the-job coaching and support from your colleagues as you develop your technical, project management and customer interaction skills, as you work towards professional status or chartership. There are also opportunities for site surveillance trips at construction yards and offshore. We encourage opportunities for personal growth in DNV, through our 70-20-10 philosophy (70% learning on the job, 20% coaching & 10% training) to support your ongoing career development.
