About the role

DNV is seeking a Corrosion Engineer (Coupons Analysis Lead) to work in the Corrosion Advisory Services group in the Advisory Services Department in Midstream/Downstream & Labs service area of Energy Systems North America Region. This team of engineering consultants specializes in internal and external corrosion of oil and gas pipelines and corrosion of buried metallic structures. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to gain practical experience in corrosion engineering and coupon analysis, work alongside industry leaders, and progress towards becoming a consulting expert in this field. This role is based at our DNV office in Dublin, OH. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.

What You’ll Do

  • Project Support: Assist with project tasks and deliverables (e.g., data review, report drafting). Participate in proposal development and management of projects.
  • Technical Tools: Receive training and support in using relevant software such as COMSOL or BEASY. Contribute to the development of digital tools for coupon processing and interpretation.
  • Consulting & Development: Collaborate with team members and clients on coupons and corrosion-related projects, contributing to technical discussions and problem-solving. Support the execution of project deliverables, including data review, report drafting, and proposal development. Advance strategy and initiatives to improve and evolve coupon review processes and associated data handling.
  • Coupons and Laboratory: Assist in laboratory testing of pipeline coupons and materials. Work in a laboratory environment operating equipment such as microscopes, surface profilometers, laser cleaning instruments, mass balances, sterilizers, and other relevant tools to clean and document corrosion coupons. Operate a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to document the surface of coupon samples at high magnification. Maintain inventory and order parts and supplies as needed. Support field activities such as coupon retrieval, surveys, and inspections. Travel to customers’ field locations to assist in installation and removal of samples (operator qualification training required) and to office locations for meetings. Preparation of solutions and samples for microbial induced corrosion (MIC) testing. Switch between multiple tasks and projects (coupons and MIC) and perform testing and data reporting on samples in a timely manner.

What is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, or related).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Basic knowledge of corrosion in oil and gas/pipeline industry.
  • Basic programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data review or modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively collaborate within team environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

We conduct pre-employment background and drug screening, as well as random drug screening to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.

What is Preferred

  • Materials Laboratory experience
  • Exposure to PowerBI or Power Apps.
  • AMPP CP1 certification or interest in pursuing it.
  • Exposure to GIS tools for mapping pipeline data.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or SolidWorks).
