You’ll join our growing Risk Advisory team, providing consultancy and risk-management services including risk identification, assessment and mitigation and risk-based decision support, to customers right across the Energy Sector, including; Oil and Gas supply chain, hydrogen and other allied areas of the Energy transition (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), renewables).

Supporting with the delivery of our customer projects, you’ll be given real responsibility throughout your time with us, helping develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the Energy industry, laying the foundations for you to not only develop your career within this fast evolving and dynamic industry, but also make a genuine impact on the future of our planet.

Our Opportunity:

As a highly analytical student, studying towards a degree in subjects such as Aerospace, Chemical, Process Safety or Mechanical Engineering, Maths, Physics or Risk & Reliability, our summer placement provides a fantastic opportunity to gain practical work experience to complement your university studies.

Based in our central London office, you’ll utilise your analytical and problem-solving skills to help our customers across the Energy industry, identify and implement innovative solutions to impact the transition to a more decarbonized and sustainable future.

Our summer placement is usually 10-12 weeks in duration, commencing from June onwards. During your placement you’ll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive, develop and embrace new challenges. And if you enjoy your time with us, you could be offered the opportunity to join our Graduate Programme at the end of your studies or to return the following year for another placement.

During your time with us, you will be given opportunity to:

  • Learn how major hazards, their likelihood and consequences are managed; understanding the importance of reliability of safeguards; and how to make balanced risk-based arguments for safe operations.
  • Apply consequence and risk assessment methods and tools to solve real customer issues using industry leading software and tools, validated through large/full scale experiments performed at our major hazards testing and research facility in Spadeadam. Gas dispersion studies, advanced computational simulations (CFD), and quantitative risk assessments are just a taste of the projects that you will have the opportunity to work on.
  • Engage with clients to understand their challenges as they seek to make the Energy industry safer and more sustainable, with a special focus on energy transition challenges.
  • Work alongside our experts and participate in client discussions to develop your understanding of the industry, its terminology, our customer’s challenges and how different engineering disciplines contribute to safety.

  • Self-motivated to develop your personal and professional skills.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in Excel and Python being beneficial, along with the ability to produce concise technical reports detailing clear outcomes of the analysis for customers.
  • Pro-active willingness to learn new skills displaying a willingness to “get stuck in” and undertake work outside ‘comfort zone’ demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / think through the problem.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, confident in building professional relationships and demonstrates first class written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives.
