HR Advisor / Employee Relations Advisor

East London | Β£35,000 per annum | Fixed-Term Contract to Permanent | Hybrid – 2–3 days

We are recruiting an experienced HR Advisor / Employee Relations Advisor to join a busy and evolving People & Culture team within a complex, multi-service organisation.

This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on employee relations casework, TUPE and consultation processes. You will support managers across a broad range of people matters, providing practical, consistent and legally compliant advice while helping ensure formal HR processes are managed effectively and fairly.

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable managing a high-volume ER caseload while also supporting significant organisational change activity, including TUPE transfers, restructures, redundancies and formal consultation exercises.

The initial appointment will be on a fixed-term contract, with a clear opportunity for the role to become permanent.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied and often high-volume employee relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, sickness absence and long-term absence matters
  • Providing managers with clear, practical advice on ER matters, HR policies, procedures and employment law
  • Supporting and advising managers through investigations, formal hearings, disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Playing an active role in TUPE transfer activity, including supporting due diligence, employee information, consultation and transfer processes
  • Supporting individual and collective consultation exercises arising from restructures, redundancies, service changes and other organisational change
  • Ensuring consultation and TUPE processes are properly documented, legally compliant and delivered within required timescales
  • Working constructively with employees, managers and trade union representatives throughout consultation and employee relations processes
  • Identifying and escalating particularly complex or high-risk ER matters where appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential and compliant employee records, case notes and consultation documentation
  • Supporting the review and improvement of HR policies, procedures and manager guidance
  • Liaising with occupational health, employment law advisers and other external HR providers where required
  • Producing HR reports and using employee relations data to identify recurring issues, trends and areas of organisational risk
  • Supporting wider HR projects and People & Culture initiatives
  • Coaching managers to build confidence in handling employee relations issues consistently and effectively

About you

You will be an experienced HR Advisor or Employee Relations professional with strong practical experience of managing ER casework and supporting organisational change.

It is particularly important that you can demonstrate experience of TUPE, consultation processes and hands-on employee relations case management.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong practical experience managing disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and absence cases
  • Experience managing or supporting a high-volume ER caseload
  • Good knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations best practice
  • Practical experience of TUPE transfers, including employee consultation and supporting the transfer process
  • Experience supporting formal consultation exercises, including restructures, redundancies and organisational change
  • Confidence advising and supporting managers through sensitive and sometimes contentious HR matters
  • Experience working with employees and trade unions during ER and consultation processes
  • Strong written communication, case documentation and report-writing skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases, consultations and competing priorities
  • A practical, balanced and people-focused approach to resolving workplace issues
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification, working towards CIPD Level 5, or equivalent professional experience

This opportunity would particularly suit an experienced HR Advisor, Employee Relations Advisor, People Advisor or Junior HR Business Partner who has strong exposure to ER casework, TUPE and consultation activity and is looking for a varied role within a complex organisation.
