We are looking for an experienced Senior ER/HR Partner to join a busy HR team and play a key role in delivering a proactive, high-quality people service across the organisation. This is a senior role with a strong focus on employee relations strategy, complex case management, organisational change, and leadership support. You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and managers, helping them navigate sensitive and high-risk people matters while ensuring fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes. You will also line manage and develop ER/HR Business Partners and HR Advisors, providing coaching, supervision and professional oversight to ensure consistent, high-quality case management across the team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee HR and employee relations activity across allocated business areas.
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex ER cases, including conduct, grievance, capability, attendance, performance and sensitive employee matters.
- Line manage, coach and develop HR professionals, supporting their capability, confidence and performance.
- Advise senior leaders and managers on complex people issues, risk-based decision making and best practice.
- Build effective relationships with managers, stakeholders and employee representatives.
- Lead on organisational change activity, including restructures, redundancy, service redesign and employee consultation.
- Oversee HR-related projects and work with external providers such as legal advisers, occupational health and mediators.
- Use HR data and ER trends to identify risks, inform decisions and improve outcomes.
- Support continuous improvement in HR policies, processes, systems and manager toolkits.
- Design and deliver training to improve manager capability in handling people issues.
About you
We are looking for someone with:
- Significant experience operating as a senior HR or ER practitioner within a complex organisation.
- Strong experience managing complex, sensitive and high-risk ER casework.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing HR professionals.
- A strong track record of advising senior leaders on employment matters, policy and risk.
- Experience working in environments with employee representatives or trade unions.
- Experience supporting organisational change, consultation and restructuring activity.
- Strong HR data analysis skills, with the ability to turn trends into practical insight.
- Experience improving HR policies, processes and systems.
- A relevant HR qualification, such as CIPD Level 5 or equivalent experience.
