Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Full-time, Permanent
The Role
This is a hands‑on Finance Manager role where you’ll oversee all day‑to‑day finance operations while also working directly with the CEO on long‑term strategic finance decisions. You’ll manage core finance processes, VAT, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, supplier management, and monthly reporting, while also helping us adopt new systems and automation to streamline workflows.
The role will suit someone confident working in an SME environment, comfortable rolling up their sleeves with manual processes, but also able to provide insights and improvements that support business growth. Longer‑term, there is scope to progress into a more senior, business‑partnering role as we explore acquisitions and expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts payable and receivable
- VAT returns and compliance
- Supplier payments and reconciliations
- Month‑end reporting (P&L, forecasting)
- Cash flow monitoring and forecasting
- Manage and oversee payroll (working with our Payroll Manager and Brightpay software) – circa £500–600k per month.
- Ensure PAYE, pensions, and adjustments are completed accurately and on time.
- Work with directors to provide accurate, timely financial insights to support decision‑making.
- Maintain and improve financial systems (i.e Xero, Brightpay)
- Drive automation and process improvements in accounts payable, invoicing, and reporting.
- Support business planning, cash conversion analysis, and potential acquisition integration.
- Collaborate with external accountants where specialist advice is required.
- Support colleagues handling payroll and bookkeeping as needed.
About You
- Experience as a Finance Manager or in a similar role within an SME environment.
- Strong understanding of payroll, VAT, and financial operations (essential).
- Confident with accounting software (Xero experience ideal; Brightpay desirable).
- Comfortable with hands‑on transactional finance but able to provide higher‑level analysis.
- Ideally ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (or equivalent), but strong qualified‑by‑experience candidates also welcome.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Ambitious, commercially minded, and keen to grow with the business.
- Experience in a labour‑intensive business with a large payroll (e.g. cleaning, facilities, staffing, hospitality) would be highly beneficial.
