Interim Director of Children’s Social Care
Reporting to: Corporate Director, Children, Young People & Education
Contract Type: 1-year Fixed Term Contract (FTC) / Secondment
Start Date: January 2026
Note: This is a Senior leadership position but not the statutory Director of Children’s Services.
Lead and maintain strong children\’s social care practice.
- Children’s social care operations
- Transformation programmes
- Family First Programme (FFP)
- Embedding sufficiency and placement strategies
- Foster care and in-house provision strategy
- A technically strong senior social work leader (e.g., Head of Service, AD, or Director level).
Experience and skills
- Large-scale operational management
- Complex caseload environments
- Corporate governance and working with elected members
- Ability to lead transformation at pace
- Strong communicator, able to navigate political and organisational interfaces
- Ideally some London experience (not mandatory)
- Demonstrated ability to embed improvement over design
- High resilience; thrives in a busy, pressured environment
- Someone who fits culturally – collaborative, pragmatic, corporate‑minded
