DNEG Feature Animation has been growing in recent years, bringing in talent from around the globe to work on our shows and we rely on our talented Rigging Developers to create amazing rigs suitable for use in Feature Animation Films. Appeal is key at DNEG and we expect our Rigging Developers to have a strong eye for detail and aesthetic design.

We aim to compete with the best in the business and will depend on our Rigging Developers to create animation rigs for characters, creatures, props, and vehicles. From time to time, it may be necessary to implement proprietary tools to aid in creating animation rigs. This is a team effort, so you will work closely with our Rigging Supervisors and Animation Leads/Supervisors to develop the most suitable rigging solutions.

Job Description / Key Purpose of the Job: DNEG seeks a skilled and experienced Rigging Developer with a strong passion for technical problem-solving to join their rigging department. The ideal candidate will possess a wealth of experience working within Animation or VFX studios and a thorough understanding of rigging workflows and techniques. You will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and creating new workflow tools and rigging modules. You will also tackle troubleshooting tasks and support the team, as well as organize training sessions for the rigging team, ensuring that the team is well-trained and that documentation is up-to-date.

Key Responsibilities / Job Duties:

  • Work with show leadership to design, build, and support new and existing tools and techniques related to character rigging, crowds, and CFX workflows.
  • Closely interact with rigging artists to help improve their workflows.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and documented solutions.
  • Collaborate with other departments on all character-related workflows to ensure data flows in and out of the rigging department correctly and efficiently.

Job Requirements / Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Five-plus years of experience as a Character Technical Director.
  • Two-plus years of experience in software development.
  • Experience with Maya API.
  • Strong Python software development.
  • Experience with object-oriented software design.
  • Development experience and ability to work closely with end-users.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Experience in problem-solving and balancing quick turnaround with long-term quality.

Additional Skills / Nice to Have:

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with other third-party DCC applications used in VFX and Animation, such as Houdini or Blender.
  • Experience with C++ software development.
  • Experience with USD and its usage in feature production pipelines.
  • Experience in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience in Bifrost (Maya).
  • Experience in ZIVA.
