We are looking for a Transport Supervisor for our client based in Stockport. Working Monday to Thursday, 11:00am to 9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am to 7:00pm you will be responsible for our clients busy transport operations.
We are seeking an experienced and organised HGV Transport Planner to manage and optimise the daily planning of heavy goods vehicle operations. The role focuses on efficient route planning, driver scheduling, compliance with transport legislation, and delivering a reliable, cost-effective transport service.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and schedule daily and weekly HGV routes to maximise efficiency and vehicle utilisation
- Allocate drivers and vehicles in line with operational requirements
- Ensure compliance with driver hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph regulations
- Monitor vehicle movements and respond to delays, breakdowns, or last-minute changes
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams
- Optimise routes to reduce fuel costs, mileage, and emissions
- Ensure all transport activities comply with health, safety, and legal requirements
- Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and KPIs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the transport operation
- Proven experience in an HGV transport planning or logistics role
- Good working knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance standards
- Experience planning multi-drop or long-haul HGV operations
- CPC qualification (National or International) is desirable
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Confident using transport management systems (TMS) and planning software
- Good geographical knowledge and route-planning ability
- Strong attention to detail and decision-making skills
- Experience with fleet performance analysis and cost control
- Knowledge of fuel efficiency and sustainability practices
- Office-based role within a transport or logistics environment
- Shift work or flexible hours may be required to support operations
