Please note that this is an apprenticeship position and therefore anyone with more than six months professional experience working as a data analyst or who holds a degree or Master’s degree in a subject such as Data Science, Business Analytics or Maths will not be eligible. You will also need to commit to completing a Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship.
About Us
Racecourse Media Group is the umbrella organisation for those 35 racecourses which hold an interest in Racing TV (Sky 426, Virgin 536 and 411), GBI (international betting partnership with ARC), the Racing1 alliance (international partnership with ARC, Tabcorp and 1st Group), Racecourse Data Company (licensor of Pre‑Race Data) and the SIS provided domestic LBO service.
Role Overview
We are seeking an analytical and detail‑oriented Apprentice Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. This role will support RMG’s Finance Team and Head of Strategy by transforming data into actionable insights that drive financial performance, strategic planning, and audience engagement across the company and the sport of horse racing.
This role will assist with collecting, processing, and analysing large datasets related to betting, TV viewership (across subscriber and free‑to‑air television), digital engagement and new products, providing intelligence to teams across our business. This role is intended to be entry‑level with a focus on upskilling a high‑potential candidate who will be studying with Digital Native one day per week. This role will report into the Head of Strategy and be supported by Digital Native in their learning and development.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Support analysis of financial data across the business.
- Support in creating dashboards and reports to monitor financial KPIs and performance trends.
Audience Reporting
- Assist in development and tracking of KPIs across the business.
- Work to communicate insights and performance to stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Work closely with commercial, marketing and product teams to understand their data needs and deliver tailored analytical solutions.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of our data infrastructure and analytical capabilities.
Strategic Insights & Market Intelligence
- Analyse betting turnover data per race across different product verticals.
- Conduct data‑driven research on audience behaviour, content performance, and market trends.
- Provide insights to support strategic initiatives, partnerships, and product development.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices in data analytics, new tools, and emerging trends, particularly within sports, media and betting.
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in producing company presentations for both internal and external use.
- Assist the RMG Leadership team with ad‑hoc projects around the business.
Requirements
- Proven interest in data analysis (this could be from formal studies, self‑study or the workplace).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Detail‑oriented and strong attention to accuracy and completeness.
- Exceptional problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to learn and continuously improve technical and professional skills.
- Competency with Microsoft office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of using data tools (e.g. SQL, Python, visualisation tools such as Power BI / Tableau etc) would be an advantage but not essential.
Minimum Qualifications
- 7 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9–4 or A–C, including English and Mathematics.
- 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at grades A*–C in any subject but preferably one in a numerical or computing subject.
Salary: £27,500
Location: London, SW1 W9 SP (Currently hybrid – spending minimum two days per week in the office – but this is subject to review)
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, including one day per week for study.
