Are you someone who enjoys making sense of complex information and helping people understand what really matters? Do you care about how colleagues experience communication at work, and how effective internal communication supports engagement, trust and connection?
We’re creating a brand new Internal Communications Assistant role, the first of its kind at DN Colleges Group, to help shape how we communicate with our people and support a more connected, informed workforce. This is an on-site role within a multi-site organisation. You will be based at either Doncaster College or North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, depending on proximity to home, with an expectation of regular travel between sites as part of the role.
Working within the Organisational Development area of People Services, this is a great opportunity for someone with strong communication skills who enjoys listening, joining the dots and working closely with HR, OD and Talent colleagues to support staff engagement, development and internal opportunity.
About the Role
This is an exciting time to join our People Services team. As a growing, multi-site organisation, we want to strengthen how we communicate internally so colleagues across all our colleges receive clear, timely information and feel aligned with DN Colleges Group priorities.
As Internal Communications Assistant, you’ll support the development and delivery of internal communications across the Group. You’ll work closely with HR, OD, Talent Acquisition colleagues and senior leaders to help ensure messages are joined up, people-focused and well planned.
Your Focus will be on:
- Supporting clear, purposeful and engaging communication to colleagues across the Group
- Coordinating messages so people receive the right information at the right time, in a way that supports understanding and engagement
- Supporting staff voice initiatives, helping to collect and communicate feedback so colleagues feel heard and understood
- Enabling effective communication around staff engagement, wellbeing and development activity, including internal opportunities for growth and progression
- Strengthening awareness and visibility of opportunities, initiatives and key updates across the organisation
- Helping connect organisational priorities, people initiatives and day-to-day activity through thoughtful, well-planned internal communication
This is a hands-on, practical role with real scope to grow, ideal for someone who enjoys organising, improving and shaping how information is shared.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as a central link between teams, helping ensure priorities, initiatives and messages are connected, well timed and clearly understood by colleagues
- Working with People Services colleagues and senior leaders to support clear, aligned and purposeful communication across the organisation
- Supporting communication around staff development, learning opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and people-focused programmes
- Planning internal communications activity in advance, while remaining responsive to emerging and time-sensitive priorities
- Making effective use of internal communication channels to reach different audiences across the Group
- Listening to what’s happening across the organisation, gathering feedback and insight, and helping ensure important messages are not missed
- Supporting employee engagement activity, including communication before, during and after engagement surveys and listening exercises
- Building strong, trusted working relationships with colleagues at all levels across the organisation
You’ll play a key role in helping colleagues feel informed, connected and engaged, and in supporting a shared understanding of what’s happening across the Group and why it matters.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
- A clear, confident and engaging communicator, comfortable crafting messages and communicating in person with colleagues and groups
- Confident working with senior leaders to help shape clear, aligned and people-focused communication
- Curious and observant, with a habit of listening, spotting themes and ensuring key messages are not missed
- Organised and able to plan communications in advance, while remaining flexible and responsive to emerging priorities
- Interested in employee engagement and culture, with experience supporting engagement activity such as annual surveys or listening exercises
- Comfortable making effective use of a range of communication channels
- Professional, trusted and discreet, able to handle sensitive information appropriately
- Collaborative and approachable, able to build constructive relationships across the organisation
You may have experience in HR, communications, marketing or an administrative role with a communications focus, or be looking to develop your career in this space. Experience in education is helpful, but not essential.
