The Electrical Manager will be responsible for leading the electrical team and ensuring all work complies with relevant regulations and industry standards. This position includes direct line management of electricians and apprentices, alongside active involvement in the commissioning, testing, certification, and approval of solar PV systems. The successful candidate will play a vital role in upholding high standards of quality, safety, and operational performance across all electrical activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret technical drawings and client specifications to determine electrical requirements for assigned projects.
  • Carry out risk assessments and evaluate tasks involving electrical systems.
  • Lead, manage, and support the electrical team, including qualified electricians and apprentices.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and encourage ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure all electrical work is compliant with current legislation, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Stay up to date with electrical regulations and renewable energy best practices.
  • Commission solar PV systems, including functional testing and system validation.
  • Complete and certify electrical installations, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant.
  • Implement and oversee health and safety procedures across all electrical operations.
  • Perform audits and inspections to maintain compliance standards.
  • Work closely with project managers and other departments to ensure timely and cost effective project delivery.
  • Provide technical input for the procurement of project-related materials.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults and technical issues.

Key Qualifications

  • Degree (BSc/MSc) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Experience in solar PV installation and commissioning.
  • Testing and Inspection qualification.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Full, valid driving licence.

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of renewable energy systems and electrical equipment such as transformers, battery storage, and inverters.
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution (e.g., Chartered or Incorporated Engineer).
  • Experience within the renewable energy or power generation sector.
  • Knowledge of commercial and contractual aspects of engineering projects.
  • Minimum of 3–4 years’ experience managing LV/HV electrical projects and installations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the business and its customers.
