Location: Billingham, Teesside

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week

Travel: UK-wide travel required, with occasional international travel

DMW Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join an established engineering consultancy based in Teesside. This is a senior, technically focused role offering the opportunity to take ownership of electrical engineering projects from initial design and investigation through to delivery, commissioning and completion.

The Role

As Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead and undertake electrical engineering design, studies and site surveys across a range of industrial projects, working closely with clients and other project stakeholders. You will be responsible for delivering projects to the required technical standards, budget and programme, while acting as a technical lead and supporting the development of junior engineers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Electrical design for LV and HV distribution systems up to and including 33kV
  • Power earthing studies and fault level calculations
  • Protection coordination and load flow studies
  • Arc energy calculations and transient analysis
  • HV motor starting studies
  • Carrying out site surveys, technical investigations and data gathering
  • Producing calculations, drawings, line diagrams, connection schedules and equipment specifications
  • Developing complete design packages suitable for subcontract build and commissioning
  • Preparing technical reports and project documentation
  • Managing project equipment, materials, procurement and supplier enquiries
  • Reviewing supplier quotations and carrying out bid appraisals
  • Managing suppliers, subcontractors and internal project resources
  • Taking lead responsibility for technical delivery, quality, budget and programme
  • Supporting tender estimates and client proposals
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members

About You

The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering within an engineering consultancy or industrial environment, with proven experience delivering projects from design through to completion. You will ideally have:

  • Minimum 6 years' relevant industry experience
  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Power Engineering
  • Strong experience in both HV and LV electrical engineering
  • Experience delivering small to medium-sized projects with full project ownership
  • Previous experience working on industrial projects within a design environment
  • Experience supervising site activities and electrical commissioning
  • A proven track record of technical involvement in EPC capital and/or revenue projects
  • Previous experience in a senior or supervisory engineering position
  • Strong knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards and practices
  • Experience undertaking electrical engineering studies and calculations
  • Proficiency with industry software such as SKM Power Tools, ETAP and AutoCAD
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with clients
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites throughout the UK

Working towards Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant professional engineering institution would be highly desirable.
