The Role
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve DMM's production processes, working at the interface between design, quality and manufacturing. This role is focused on process definition, optimisation and documentation, ensuring products are robustly transferred from design into efficient, repeatable production. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys improving how things are made – combining structured engineering methods with practical problem solving on the factory floor. You will work closely with Design Engineers, Quality and Operations teams and report to the Design Manager.
Responsibilities
- Define, document and improve manufacturing processes across the factory
- Support design-for-manufacture activities during new product introduction
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including: work instructions, route cards and inspection documents
- Identify and implement process improvements to improve quality, efficiency and consistency
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing issues
- Assist with tooling, jigs and fixtures for production and testing
- Support production trials, process proving and change management
- Act as a technical link between design, quality and production teams
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production engineering environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and process control
- Ability to analyse workflows and identify improvement opportunities
- Good documentation and communication skills
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to work cross-functionally with design, quality and production teams
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with lean manufacturing tools (value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen)
- Familiarity with PFMEA, process validation and continuous improvement methods
- Experience in regulated or safety-critical manufacturing environments
- Understanding of metal manufacturing processes (forging, CNC machining, heat treatment, anodising)
- Experience designing or specifying jigs and fixtures
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Holiday: 25 days (+8 fixed)
