DMI is looking for a motivated Project Development Officer to join our friendly team in London. The successful applicant will work across the Partnerships and Development team supporting DMI’s efforts to find and secure funding for our work. They will also be involved in external communications and maintaining effective relationships with existing and future donors.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the wider business development function to secure funding for DMI’s work from a range of donors (governments, multilateral institutions, and trusts & foundations). This will include contributing to the project design process and drafting proposals.
- Contributing to DMI’s communications work through writing copy for DMI’s website, annual and quarterly reports, internal newsletters and other communications material.
- Leading the knowledge management of DMI’s business development function including organising and updating DMI’s pipeline of business opportunities, past performances, and capacity statements.
- Identifying relevant funding opportunities from a range of governments, multilateral institutions, and trusts & foundations.
- Researching and analysing potential partners, new thematic subject areas for DMI, and keeping abreast of developments inside DMI’s sphere of work.
- Scoping out opportunities for DMI to communicate our research and learn about the wider sector through attending and participating in conferences, webinars and online events.
- Supporting the team to manage relationships with, and reporting for, funders and partners.
- Other tasks as required by DMI and relevant to a junior role in the strategy and partnerships team.
Person specification
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
- Good analytical skills, including strong numerical skills and familiarity with Excel.
- A degree in a relevant field, bachelor’s or master’s, or equivalent experience.
- Aptitude for, and a desire to learn new skills.
- Enjoy working under time pressure, with excellent time-management skills and remain good-humoured under pressure.
- Understanding of one or more of these types of funders: bilateral institutions (e.g. FCDO), multilateral institutions (e.g. UNICEF), trusts and foundations.
- Knowledge of, and interest in, the international development sector.
- Permission to live and work in the UK.
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience
- Relevant experience working or living in low-income countries, especially Africa.
- Knowledge of global health and/or behaviour change.
- Knowledge or interest in Effective Altruism.
- French or Portuguese language skills, including the ability to write in French or Portuguese.
- Relevant work or voluntary experience.
