About the Role
The Daily Mail is seeking a talented, high-energy, and ambitious Senior Foreign News Reporter to join our fast-paced international news desk.
As a Senior Reporter, you will look beyond the UK to uncover the stories shaping our world. Applicants must be able to spot great stories, cover fast-breaking news, come up with ideas for exclusive angles and feature ideas and have a good understanding of big international stories as well as the ability to explain them clearly to readers.
The scope of this role is vast. You must expect to cover everything from globally important political events to the strangest and most bizarre human-interest stories across the globe. You must have significant newsroom experience and the proven ability to deliver vibrant, clean copy to very tight deadlines.
Main Responsibilities
- Story Generation:Proactively source, pitch, and break high-impact, original international news stories.
- Breaking News Coverage:Lead the desk's response to major global events, delivering rapid, accurate updates under pressure.
- Exclusive Angles:Investigate complex global events to find unique, captivating angles that set our coverage apart from competitors.
- Multimedia Awareness:Demonstrate a keen eye for photographs and visual elements that bring digital and print stories to life.
- Copywriting & Headlines:Craft vibrant, legally sound, and clean copy alongside strong, attention-grabbing headlines.
- Global Scope:Maintain a sharp pulse on international affairs, tracking everything from hard politics to viral, offbeat global trends.
Person Specification
- Certification:NCTJ qualification or equivalent industry training.
- Experience:Significant, proven experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom environment.
- Global Mindset:A deeply ingrained, strong interest in international news, current events, and global cultures.
- Operational Flexibility:Total flexibility regarding working patterns, shifts, and schedules.
- Adaptability:Out-of-hours availability and a high level of resilience are essential, as global news never stops.
