We are looking for a forward-thinking AI Engineer Intern to join our Innovation Team. This role is designed for a student or recent graduate eager to bridge the gap between emerging AI capabilities and real-world media applications. You will help us explore how AI agents, prompt engineering, and predictive modeling can transform modern journalism and commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Research AI opportunities: Provide thorough insight into the latest AI trends, emerging models and frames that the innovation team could test and implement to improve performance of AI systems.
- Prototyping: Assist in designing and prototyping AI-driven tools to improve newsroom efficiency and digital product innovation.
- Prompt & Context Engineering: Explore ways to optimise the prompt and context that is passed to AI Agents for production grade systems.
- Building AI Agents: Help develop and test automation tools that use agentic and LLM workflows to streamline repetitive tasks and accelerate business performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside editorial, product, and technology teams to identify new AI opportunities.
- Test & Learn: Contribute to a culture of rapid experimentation and iterative improvement.
What We Are Looking For
- Technical Foundation: A background in AI/ML engineering, data science, or a related academic field.
- Core Knowledge: Understanding of LLMs, NLP concepts and AI frameworks (e.g. Pydantic AI, Langchain, LlamaIndex).
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python and experience working with APIs.
- Agentic IDE Experience: Ability to assist in code development using agentic IDEs and MCP servers alongside them.
- Cloud Awareness: Familiarity with cloud services (e.g AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to understand business needs and translate them into AI solutions.
- Passion: A genuine interest in emerging technologies and driving change within the news industry.
