The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

We are seeking a detail-oriented leader to process, oversee and direct multiple payrolls and payroll procedures, ensuring accuracy, timely production, compliance with laws and tax obligations. You will supervise the payroll team and maintain accurate payroll records. Reporting into the HR & Payroll Shared Services Manager, you will ensure that you and your team run multiple payrolls smoothly while prioritising business partnering.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accurate processing of wages, salaries, and other forms of compensation across the business, maintaining compliance with contractual and statutory obligations.
  • Maintain proactive and positive working relationships with key customers and the payroll team.
  • Ensure amendments are processed via Workday or posted directly to the payroll system prior to the payroll deadlines.
  • Review errors, exceptions and element reports and reconcile to final payroll.
  • Ensure that the BACS report, payroll summary and final analysis are reconciled and authorised.
  • Address and resolve employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to provide excellent customer service.
  • Generate and analyse payroll reports to support financial and management reporting.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on payroll data analysis.
  • Ensure accurate and timely FPS and EPS submissions to HMRC.
  • Oversee the preparation and issuing of P60s and P11Ds to employees and provide details to the Inland Revenue by the required deadline.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve payroll processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT to implement system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Lead a payroll team, keeping them engaged, proactive and focused on best business partnering practice.
  • Manage holiday approvals, appraisals, training and other ad hoc duties for the payroll team.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in payroll and people management, preferably in a high-volume or Shared Services environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills with internal and external customers and experience managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to resolving payroll queries, with an ability to explain complex payroll issues simply.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs and PivotTables).
  • Experience with iTrent (including Sys Admin functions) and Workday payroll systems.
  • Ability to perform complex payroll calculations.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage tasks accurately to meet demanding deadlines for self and the payroll team.
  • A proactive approach to identifying problems and formulating solutions.
  • Ability to keep calm and stay focused under pressure.
  • Advanced UK legislation knowledge (including benefits, ERS, etc).
  • CIPP – Foundation Degree as a minimum.
  • P11d Processing – PAS System.
