Job Introduction
MailOnline has an incredible opportunity for a Social Media Editor to join our industry-leading team on a freelance basis. MailOnline is the biggest news publisher on social media with more than 100 million followers across its wide-ranging and diverse stable of accounts. We’re looking for an outstanding candidate who can grow our traffic and drive engagement and follower growth.
The candidate must have a proven ability to deliver world class innovation and growth in social media, particularly on Facebook, but also focusing on Twitter, Instagram and other platforms.
You will work in a team of talented social media editors and writers, identify content themes and devise and implement new tactics and strategies, while maintaining editorial standards of excellence. You will work closely with our editors and journalists to deliver engaging content to our millions of followers. You must have a high regard for analytics and understand how to use it to inform actions – and deliver demonstrable success.
Qualifications
- Experience working with social platforms and crowdsourcing or experience managing social media platforms for a digital media publication
- Proficiency in Adobe Premier Pro is desirable
- Prior newsroom experience is essential
- Demonstrable digital production skills, including an ability to work comfortably within content management systems
- Ability to gather and analyse social media data and analytics
- In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
Responsibilities
- Editing MailOnline social feeds
- Cover live events and breaking news on social media and emerging platforms
- Work closely with reporters and editors from various desks around the newsroom on social media projects and best practices
- Disseminate knowledge of social media, crowdsourcing and reader engagement techniques in the newsroom
- Monitor social media analytics to gauge success of social media efforts and initiatives
- Be aware of trends in social media and news consumption
