We’re partnering with a high-growth technology business building advanced conversational AI products used by a global user base. They are now looking to hire a Tech Lead – LLM & Generative AI to take ownership of their model ecosystem — leading a small team while remaining hands-on in the design, development, and deployment of large-scale AI systems. This is a unique opportunity to work on production-grade AI at scale, where your work directly impacts live user experiences.
The Role
As Tech Lead, you will combine technical leadership with hands‑on engineering, shaping how models are built, optimised, and deployed in a high-performance environment. You’ll play a key role in defining architecture, improving model behaviour, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and responsibly at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers while remaining actively involved in coding (Python/PyTorch)
- Design and optimise systems for real‑time conversational AI, including context management, retrieval, and latency
- Own the end‑to‑end model lifecycle, including fine‑tuning, evaluation, and deployment strategies
- Define when to leverage prompting, fine‑tuning, or architectural changes to improve performance
- Oversee data pipelines including dataset sourcing, labelling, and quality control
- Build and refine content moderation and classification systems, enabling safe and controlled outputs in complex environments
- Monitor model performance and continuously improve quality, scalability, and reliability
Requirements
- 8+ years’ experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on machine learning / LLMs
- Proven track record of building and deploying AI/ML systems in production environments at scale
- Strong hands‑on experience with Python and PyTorch
- Familiarity with modern LLM tooling and frameworks (e.g. Hugging Face, inference optimisation tools, evaluation frameworks)
- Experience working on products with large, active user bases
- Strong understanding of model behaviour, optimisation techniques, and alignment challenges
- Ability to balance technical excellence with delivery speed
- Comfortable taking ownership and operating in a high‑autonomy environment
- Experience working with conversational AI or real‑time systems
- Exposure to retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) architectures
- Background working in fast‑paced, product‑led environments
What’s on Offer
- Competitive compensation
- Remote‑first working environment
- Generous paid time off
- Learning and development support
- Wellbeing and health benefits
- Access to leading AI tools and technologies
